Elementary school students in Edmonds are test-riding a new bicycle education program — using hand signals, scanning over their shoulders and dodging potholes and foam rocks — in an effort to instill good safety habits early.

The Edmonds Bicycle Advocacy Group, the Cascade Bicycle Club and the Edmonds School District introduced the program to third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Mountlake Terrace and Meadowdale elementary schools and Maplewood Parent Cooperative last fall.
