Our Timeline is a work in progress. As we continue to review our collective archive of information about EBAG activities and accomplishments from previous years, we will add them here.
2013
Jan 2013 – Wrote letters of support to our state representatives and senators regarding the importance of passing of SHB1217/HB1045 Neighborhood Safe Speeds Bill.
May 2013 – Assisted Cascade Bicycle Club with a helmet fitting and giveaway for students at Mountlake Terrace Elementary School. Assisted with children’s Bike Rodeo outdoor event.
2012
Edmonds Link to Interurban Trail officially opened through Lake Ballinger Neighborhood
Jan 2012 – Attended and spoke at Edmonds Strategic Stakeholder transportation focus group meetings to address pedestrian and bicyclist issues.
Jan 2012 – Wrote letter of support of Cascade Bicycle Club’s application for a Hazel Miller Foundation Grant to expand the Basics Of Bicycling program in Edmonds School District.
Jan 2012 – Attended Puget Sound Regional Council’s Bicycle/Pedestrian Plan 2012 planning meetings to assist in defining a regional bicycle network.
April 2012 – Met with the new Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling to share EBAG’s goals and projects with him, and to learn Mayor Earling’s visions for Edmonds. Shared our mutual support for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure to create walkable/bikeable neighborhoods.
April 2012 – Supported the City of Edmonds plans for the creation of Edmonds Sunset Avenue Overlook bicycle & pedestrian trail with sharrow location and lighting suggestions.
April 2012 – Hosted the first EBAG table at the Move60! event at Meadowdale Middle School. Distributed bicycling safety information, maps, brochures to parents & children. Assisted with children’s Bike Rodeo outdoor event.
Oct 2012 – Attended and supported the City of Edmonds proposed pedestrian & bicycle safety improvements along 228th St. SW, across Highway 99, continuing on the west side of Highway 99.This project will enhance connecting to the Interurban Trail from Edmonds locations.
Nov 2012 – Supported Cascade Bicycle Club in their grant applications to Verdant Health Commission to add more financial support for expansion of the Basics Of Bicycling program in
the Edmonds School District, as well as for doing community policy and advocacy work in south
Snohomish County.
2011
Cascade Land Conservancy honored the City of Edmonds and EBAG with the “New Directions for Livable Communities” Award for the successful completion of the “Complete Streets Initiative.”
June 2011 – Supported the Edmonds City Council unanimous passage of Edmonds “Complete
Streets Ordinance” through support meetings, letters, speaking at City Council meetings, and
attending the official signing of the ordinance by Mayor Cooper.
July 2011 – Supported the awarding of the SSCCFH $53,000 grant for Basics of Bicycling in
Edmonds. SSCCFH-South Snohomish County Commission For Health, which is now Verdant
Health Commission.
July 2011 – Hosted the first EBAG booth at Edmonds Night Out event at Frances Anderson
Playfield. Distributed bicycling safety information, bike route maps, brochures to parents &
children, and discussed Basics of Bicycling program with parents of cycling school age children.
Sept 2011 – Supported passage for bike lanes on 212th Street SW, between Interurban Trail
and 52nd Avenue West by attending and speaking at Mountlake Terrace City Council meetings
regarding pavement marking options for bike lanes.
Sept 2011 – Peter Hallson and Jan Niemi named Co-Chairs of EBAG.
Sept 2011 – Shared concerns and design ideas with the City of Edmonds engineering staff about proposed improvements for the Five Corners Roundabout Project.
Dec 2011 – Spoke at Edmonds City Council meetings about the proposed Five Corners
Roundabout and offered suggestions for modifying the roundabout design for pedestrian and
bicyclist safety concerns.
2010
Jan 2010 – Attended Transportation Advocacy Day in Olympia, meeting with law-makers, and
other transportation advocates.
Sept 2010– Counted cyclists and pedestrians north of the “missing Edmonds link” of the
Interurban Trail. WSDOT/Cascade Bicycle Club’s Pedestrian & Bicyclist Annual Counts for
future assessments and funding.
Nov 2010 – Supported City of Edmonds plans for completing the “Edmonds missing link” of the
Interurban Trail.
2009
May 2009 – Hosted the first Edmonds Bike To Work Day aid station near the Edmonds ferry
terminal. Distributed bicycling safety information, bike route maps, brochures to commuters.
2004
Hank Landau & Reid Larson named Co-Chairs of EBAG through 2010.
2001
Participated in the development of the Edmonds Parks and Open Space Comprehensive Plan.
2000
Helped Edmonds prepare the City of Edmonds Bikeway Comprehensive Plan.
1998
John Larpenteur named Chair of EBAG after the passing of Don Carr, and served as Chair through 2003.
1995
The EBAG Advocate newsletter published.
May 27 – Cycle Recycle Bike and Gear Swap Meet & Safety Event, dedicated to the proposition that all bikes are not created equal, but should have an equal opportunity to be re-cycled. Held every May from 1995 – 1997.
EBAG was the recipient of the NowBike “Citizen Advocacy” Award by the Northwest Bicycle Federation.
EBAG received the Snohomish County Recycler of the Year Award for creating and organizing the first annual “Cycle Recycle” Bike Swap and Bicycle Safety Event.
1994
Lee Erickson founded the Edmonds Bicycle Advocacy Group (EBAG). First meeting was held in July. On September 15, officers named in Articles of Incorporation: Don Carr, Chair and Lee Erickson, Co-Chair. Tom Savage named Treasurer.
